Joann Hill is the former Creative Director at Clarion Books, an imprint of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. During her career, she has worked at Hyperion Books for Children/Disney Press and Knopf and Crown Books for Young Readers. She is currently doing freelance art direction and book design for clients including Roaring Brook Press and Egmont USA in New York. Joann is always looking for talented new illustrators.
Focus On The Job: An Indepth Workshop For Illustrators
The workshop is limited to fifteen (15) participants and will provide the experience of working with an Art Director. Upon receipt of registration, you will receive a choice of assignments from Joann Hill and instructions. Illustrators will work up three (3) sketches to be emailed to Joann—who will analyze them, offer suggestions, and further instructions. It is imperative that you adhere to the deadlines. Finally, one sketch will be developed into a final illustration, which will be portfolio-worthy. Sketches and final illustration will be displayed and critiqued on Illustrator’s Day. Joann has also graciously agreed to review portfolios for no extra fee. This exciting workshop is designed to give you a working experience and alleviate concerns of working with an Art Director.
