The author of middle-grade novels MAIZIE, HOUND HEAVEN, THE SUMMER OF THE GREAT DIVIDE, & A STONE'S THROW FROM PARADISE; as well as picture books BEEKEEPERS, A CHRISTMAS STAR, UNDER NEW YORK, THE HORSE CARVERS, WINTER SHOES FOR SHADOW-HORSE, THE LAST CHIMNEY OF CHRISTMAS EVE, & BARN SAVERS (Best Picture Book of 1999-American Library Association's Booklist journal); as well as children's poetry book A HUMBLE LIFE: PLAIN POEMS, Linda Oatman High is dedicated to high literary standards for young readers.

In addition to writing for children, she is also a playwright, journalist, and fiction writer whose work has been published both nationally and internationally. Her news columns have been collected in a book HOGWASH, HISTORY, AND HORSE SENSE, and she is currently at work on a new collection of short stories. Her plays include CHRISTMAS AT THE RITZ and UNCLE CHICK'S LAST WISH, as well as numerous other works-in-progress.
