I love visiting schools and speaking with kids in elementary, middle, and jr. high grades about writing and multicultural topics. (Presentations and workshops can be tailored to younger or older audiences.) My visits are very interactive and always include slide presentations and individual classroom visits to make a craft or cook a recipe from one of my books. School Presentations Cultural

A lively read (Kids Around the World Play!) that's a great choice for elementary-school libraries, this book shows our Nintendo-crazed kids that there are plenty of ways to have fun...The author also serves up some interesting games’ history...Since many of these games can be played indoors, the book will help teachers add a multicultural aspect to gym class, or to rainy-day recesses. Children's Literature, Donna Freedman, 2002 "Tav adored Arlette Braman's KIDS AROUND THE WORLD COOK! THE BEST FOODS AND RECIPES FROM MANY LANDS, because "it had an order I can understand, and it gives a lot of information about food," the latter in highlighted boxes called "Tasty Tidbits" and "Culture Link." This book is geared toward older kids, who will appreciate the multi-cultural lore and food facts as well as the recipes." FoodNouveau.com "As both an activity book and an introduction to Native American culture, Celebrating Our Heritage: Traditional Native American Crafts and Activities, written by Arlette N. Braman and illustrated by Bill Helin, is a welcome addition to any classroom. Braman was careful to avoid any activities that involve objects sacred to Native Americans." Lauren P. Gattilia, Education World¨, 2001 "I really like this craft book [Kids Around the World Create!]. The instructions are carefully and clearly written with children in mind.Craft projects give interesting facts about the cultures they were originally created in.I find [this book] interesting and educational, especially because it leaves the reader with a desire to learn more." Eclectic Homeschool Association, 2001 Kids Around the World Cook! is a recommended book from the PBS show Between the Lions. Time for Kids featured "Iroquois Tree of Peace," one of the activities in Traditional Native American Arts and Activities in their teacher's guide. Bio When I was a child, I loved learning about different cultures and Social Studies was one of my favorite subjects. My parents filled my childhood with rich cultural experiences, foods, traditions, and customs. As a former teacher, I developed multicultural units of study, tying in art, music, and literature. I wanted my students to gain an understanding and an appreciation for people from other cultures. It was only natural that I chose to write about different cultures when I started my writing career. I was born and raised in New Jersey. I love to travel and have been to many countries around the world. It's fun to meet people from different cultures, learn about their customs, sample their foods, and try to understand their world. I draw on those experiences when I write. Writing takes up a lot of my time, but I love to sail and spend as much time as I can on the Chesapeake. I also enjoy horseback riding, tennis, traveling, and taking vacations with my kids at the beach. I live in Maryland and Pennsylvania with my two children and our dog, Scout.
