Bio:
Nancy Springer is a lifelong fiction writer, author of thirty-some-odd
(some of them very odd) volumes of mythic fantasy, realistic fiction,
children's literature, mystery, short stories and poetry. Springer has
won the Joan Fassler Memorial Book Award for her children's novel COLT,
and two Edgar Allen Poe Awards from the Mystery Writers of America,
in 1996 for her children's novel LOOKING FOR JAMIE BRIDGER and in 1995
for her young adult novel TOUGHING IT. The latter was also a YALSA Best
Book for Young Adults, a YALSA Recommended Book for the Young Adult
Reader, a Carolyn W. Field Award Honor Book and a New York Public Library
Book for the Teen Age. Other notable children's and young adult novels
by Springer include SECRET STAR, THE BOY ON A BLACK HORSE (YALSA Recommended
for the Reluctant Young Adult Reader) THEY'RE ALL NAMED WILDFIRE.
Springer's most recent novel for young
adults is SKY RIDER, exploring the afterlife. Also recently published
is I AM MORDRED, an Arthurian novel from the point of view of Arthur's
unacknowledged son. Published by Philomel Books, I AM MORDRED has received
starred reviews from Booklist and Publishers Weekly, is a Parents Magazine
Parents Choice award, is a Booklist Top Ten Fantasy and Youth Editors
Choice, and is an ALA Best Book for Young Adults and a New York Public
Library Book for the Teen Age. Also, I AM MORDRED recently received
the Carolyn W. Field Award as best children's book by a Pennsylvania
Author in 1998.
When not writing, Springer can often
be found hiking, horseback riding, or volunteering for Wind Ridge Farm
Equine Sanctuary or Animal Rescue, Inc. Springer lives in Dallastown,
Pennsylvania with too many hyperactive cats.
